This friday, August 27th we’ll be hosting power tool drag races during the Final Friday event. Here’s a taste of what you’ll see:
We’ll also be hosting the sophomore industrial design students’ power tool projects from DAAP. We’ll begin setting up around 5, with races starting sometime after 6, once a decent amount of people show up.

For July’s Final Friday show, we decided to explore the theme of re-use, as we tried to find new uses for “old” objects and recyclable materials, specifically corrugated cardboard.
Sean built a coffee table from palette wood he found around town, while I explored lighting with sandblasted glass and “as-is” items from Ikea.
We also featured some work from UC’s sophomore class where they were prompted to build an object to scale from white corrugated cardboard. Among the objects were a deer head, a sniper rifle, a bookshelf, a chair and a bicycle.
Chris made hanging lights in the first picture, as well as this nice lamp, based off a building located near our shop.
For August’s Final Friday show, we’re going to be hosting some of the projects from this summer’s sophomore industrial design power tool studio. There may also be some hacked tool-related entertainment in conjunction with our friends at Hive13. Stop by to find out.
Here’s a video of some early circuits I’ve completed using SparkFun’s Inventor Kit for Arduino in preparation for exploring a line of electronic devices. More updates and videos to come as I find the direction I want to take.
Just wanted to say thanks for the feature article about us in Soapbox recently. We are still actively trying to figure out what our best role in interacting with the community is, given that we are occupying a storefront space. We’ve been limited to Final Fridays as we aren’t quite ready to run as a shop, but we are inside most days working. If you see us in there creating stuff feel free to knock on the door. We are always willing to help dream up and collaborate on new ideas.
Here are some overdue pictures from a show that we hosted at our space in early June. We teamed up with Professor Peter Chamberlain to present the final concepts and posters from his ”Product as Packaging” studio where they thought about how to decrease waste by making the package become part of the product experience after its initial use. Hosting the show at Losantiville gave professionals a chance to come in after work hours and gave the students a chance to exhibit their projects in a gallery setting and casually interact with guests, as opposed to the more tense critique environment.
